Description: Synopsis of Training Event: This two-day hands-on training event is designed to equip Patrol Officers with essential skills in Tactical Medicine, Officer Survival, and Active Assailant/Shooter Response. Participants will leave with a sharpened mindset, ready to overcome chaos and establish control in critical situations. Attendees should dress for a normal 10-hour workday—if such a thing exists in this line of work. Day One will begin with an introduction to Tactical Medicine and Officer Survival Techniques. Participants will learn life-saving skills such as proper tourniquet application, wound packing, and chest seal application for potential casualty events. The morning's classroom instruction will lay the foundation for success in the scenarios presented throughout the remainder of the day and into Day Two. The afternoon of Day One, as well as all of Day Two, will focus on live, force-on-force roleplay. These realistic scenarios will immerse attendees in high-stress situations, challenging them to manage their heart rates, control their breathing, and regulate their emotions as they respond to simulated dangerous or deadly encounters. A key focus of this training is the principle that every life is sacred. However, during an active assailant event, a solo officer must breach the structure, bypass the wounded, and immediately eliminate the threat to protect innocent lives. Both days will reinforce the concepts introduced during the morning of Day One. Attendees will receive vague radio dispatch calls that mimic the unpredictable nature of real-life incidents. They will be expected to provide clear and accurate radio transmissions while processing and responding to unfolding scenarios. Near the conclusion of Day Two, we will introduce a discussion on reunification after an active assailant event. Topics will include the essential elements of reunification points and strategies for delivering next-of-kin notifications—tasks that are critical to get right. Required Information for Attendees: Attendees should arrive dressed in attire that closely resembles their everyday work clothing. It's crucial to train as you would perform in real-life situations. Please wear clothing that, if permanently stained by simulated blood or marker rounds, would not result in a financial burden for you or your agency. All participants are required to bring their full gear, including gun belts, handcuffs, a handcuff key, and a ballistic vest. Long sleeves are recommended for added protection against Force-on-Force rounds. Northwest Technology Center will provide head, neck, and groin protection to attendees during scenarios. Payment Options: Northwest Technology Center will accept cash, or credit card at time of class. Additionally, if your agency prefers to provide a Purchase Order, your agency can be invoiced at the conclusion of training. Bloodstain Pattern Analysis I Description: This course offers the students an introduction of the history of Bloodstain Pattern Analysis. Students will also receive information and discussions on the science and physics associated with bloodstain pattern analysis. Bloodstain Pattern Analysis is the scientific study of the physical properties of blood in motion and the static aftermath resulting from dynamic events(s); it follows the same scientific principles and laws of physics associated with other liquids. Because of this fact, the concepts of bloodstain pattern analysis are reproducible in a laboratory and/or experimental setting. Bloodstain Pattern Analysis has been accepted as a scientific discipline. Discussion on bloodstain terminology and bloodstain descriptions will be provided. The attendees will receive a review of geometry and trigonometry as it relates to Bloodstain Pattern Analysis. Area of convergence, area of origin, bloodstain sequencing, bloodstain movement, computer uses in Bloodstain Pattern Analysis, court preparations, presumptive tests and chemical enhancements and bio-hazards associated with bloodstains will also be presented. Many of the Bloodstain Pattern Analysis concepts and events will be demonstrated through various experiments the students will perform during the course. Some of the exercises will reinforce the mathematical principals discussed while others will utilize hands on experiments using human blood. The experiments utilizing the blood will provide the attendees with opportunity to view the formation of the bloodstains under different circumstances and events. The experiments will also provide the attendees with some insight on how to setup and conduct an experiment when the analyst is presented with unique bloodstain pattern. The attendees will develop the knowledge to recognize and document the various bloodstains encountered at crime scenes. The attendees will be introduced to and will utilize a Bloodstain Pattern Analysis Worksheet to document various bloodstain experiments. The attendees will be presented with a final mock bloody scene where they will put the training from the previous four days into action.
