Director Aungela Spurlock

  • OSBI Director Aungela Spurlock is a 29-year veteran of law enforcement. She began her law enforcement career at the Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office in 1993, working as a Detention Officer, Patrol Officer, Detective, Violence against Women Grant Community Speaker and Educator, and as a Sergeant in both Detention and Patrol.
  • In 2002, Spurlock began working as a Special Agent for the OSBI, investigating major crimes. From approximately 2013 to 2016, she served as the OSBI Assistant Special Agent in Charge of the Eastern District Crime Scene Unit until taking a position as the OSBI Assistant Special Agent in Charge of the Northeast Regional Office, Tulsa. In 2019, Spurlock became the OSBI Investigative Division Eastern District Major, leading OSBI operations in the Eastern District of the State of Oklahoma and varied specialty statewide investigative units. These units included Crime Scene, Technical Management/Futures, Internet Crimes Against Children, and the newly assumed Sexual Assault Kit Initiative Unit. She was also the Chief Polygraph Examiner for the OSBI. In August of 2022, Spurlock was selected as the OSBI Interim Director and then was unanimously chosen to take permanent command of the bureau on August 26, 2022.
  • Spurlock has a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Langston, University Center at Tulsa, and a Master’s Degree in Human Relations/Organizational Leadership from the University of Oklahoma. Spurlock is a 2019 graduate of the 143rd Southern Policing Institute Administrative Officers Course- Graduate Program. Spurlock is a Child Forensic Interviewer, State of Oklahoma Licensed Polygraph Examiner, and holds Crime Scene Investigator Certifications from Missouri Southern State University and the International Association for Identification. She has an advanced CLEET Law Enforcement Certification, Advanced CLEET Instructors Certification, and over 3200 hours of CLEET-approved continued education training. Additionally, she was part of a team of professionals who developed and taught Northeastern State University’s Crime Scene Investigator Certificate Program for Law Enforcement. That program has been awarded regional and national awards for continuing education program excellence and continues today.
  • Spurlock has been married to a fellow law enforcement officer for 24 years, and together they have four sons and two grandsons.
