Chief Don Sweger

  • Don Sweger has served as the Guthrie Police Chief since 2014. Prior to that, he was the Chief at Bristow, the Sheriff of Pawnee County, a reserve peace officer for the Town of Mounds and an adjunct instructor for the University of Phoenix.
  • Chief Sweger has a Master’s degree for Northeastern State University in Criminal Justice Administration. Additionally, he has a Bachelor’s and Associate’s degree in Criminal Justice, and an Associate’s degree in Police Science.
  • Chief Sweger is very active in the Oklahoma law enforcement, serving on:
    • Council on Law Enforcement Education and Training (CLEET), as appointed by the Oklahoma Association of Chiefs of Police (OACP) appointment.
    • OACP executive board as its 1st Vice President.
    • Advisory Board of the Central Oklahoma Basic Law Enforcement Academy advisory board.
    • Fetal Infant Mortality Review Board.
    • Oklahoma Sexual Assault Forensic Evidence Task Force.
    • Oklahoma Domestic Violence Fatality Review Board.
    • Oklahoma Homeland Security Region 6 Advisory Council.
  • Chief Sweger is also very active in the training of Oklahoma Peace Officers. He has continues to teach the following subjects at full-time and reserve peace officer academies across the state:
    • Firearms – revolver, pistol, shotgun, rifle (carbine, lever action, sniper and long range) , machinegun and lever action
    • Advance Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training (ALERRT)
    • Standardized Field Sobriety Testing
    • Ethics
    • Chemical agents
    • Domestic violence
    • RADAR
    • Mental health
    • TASER
    • Patrol techniques
    • Community policing
  • Chief Sweger has two beautiful daughters and two very handsome grandsons.
